This is the home page for CASAT Instructor-Led Distance Learning. The courses are organized by grantee.

In order to enroll in a course, you must complete a registration form and payment for the course after which time the instructor will email you the course enrollment key.

The registration form is available in PDF format on our CASAT Training Opportunities webpage under the workshops section.

Due to the variability of personal computer resources, it is the responsibility of the student to contact CASAT in the event of technical difficulties.  A student must contact CASAT within one week of the start date in order to cancel, receive a full refund, or receive confirmation information, if not received.

This online course provides participants a look at the effective, science-based fundamentals of drug and alcohol abuse prevention programming. There will be a special focus on the specific cultural factors regarding Native Americans and how researched-based "best and promising" practices are implemented in Native American communities. This course brings science-based prevention programming and blends it with "what works" in Indian Country. Through online reading materials, visits to websites, and homework assignments, students will learn what makes a program successful for Native Americans and how to create prevention strategies that are culturally appropriate.

This course will include instruction on CSAP’s Western CAPT Seven Step Planning Model. The course will focus on gathering information for increasing community readiness for prevention services, assessing needs, prioritizing risk factors, assessing resources that address the prioritized risk factors, selecting a focus population, and selecting and implementing best practices.

This course will explore some of the ethical issues involved in substance abuse prevention work. Participants will learn how to use a code of ethical conduct in resolving ethical issues, and how to apply an ethical decision-making model in making critical ethical decisions. Steps for developing a code of professional practice will be presented and participants will create an action plan for developing one.
